This item will show under the following categories: Health and Social CareThe UK Government recently announced they are changing eligibility for Winter Fuel Payment. From this year, only people receiving certain qualifying benefits, like Pension Credit, will get the payment.
Following this decision, Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville confirmed the Scottish Government has had to replicate the decision in Scotland.
This means that the Pension Age Winter Heating Payment will not launch as planned this year and be deferred to 2025-26. The Department for Work and Pensions will continue to make payments equivalent to Winter Fuel Payments to eligible older people in Scotland this year.
Following these announcements, the Department for Work and Pensions is urging pensioners to check their eligibility for Pension Credit in order to secure this year’s Winter Fuel Payment. Information about how to claim can be found on the UK Government website.
