New digital and data capability framework for health and social care
Created: 31/07/2024NHS Education for Scotland (NES) have launched a new framework which identifies the digital skills, knowledge and behaviours Scotland's health and social care workforce need to do their jobs and deliver safe, good quality care.
This framework has been created to support the development of digital capabilities for everyone working in health and social care in Scotland. The framework identifies the skills, knowledge and behaviours that are essential for this workforce, clarifying the responsibilities at individual, team and organisational level.
You may be dealing with the general public in a pharmacy or GP surgery, delivering care, supporting people in their own home, working in a hospital ward, or providing services that support front-line staff.
It doesn’t matter if you spend all day, every day, with patients and members of the public, or you never encounter them directly, how you use digital and data tools to carry out your role has an impact on the care and support that is delivered and the effectiveness of services.
The framework applies to the entire health and social care workforce in Scotland (NHS, Local Authorities, Health and Social Care Partnerships, Social Work, Social Care, Care and Support Providers, Housing, Third and Independent Sectors), including managers, leaders and those in strategic positions.
No matter what type of service you work in, or what role you undertake, this framework is for you.
The framework complements existing organisational and professional learning and development frameworks and should be used in conjunction with these to provide a specific digital and data focus.
The framework includes six capabilityareas:
