"Telling Your Story" Workshop
Created: 26/07/2024Join the Fife Peer Support Network to explore how, where, and why we might share our stories.
Sharing recovery stories is an important part of the recovery approach in mental health, and a fundamental part of peer practice. Sharing our stories can help us make sense of our experiences, and gives us space to reflect on the ongoing journey of recovery, which is rarely a straight line. Recovery stories can also inform and inspire other people experiencing mental health challenges, as well as people who provide services and supports. Learning about other people’s experiences can help to challenge misconceptions and stigma. Stories are a way of sharing information about things that worked for you in recovery, and recognise the fact that people in recovery are experts by experience, showing very clearly that people can and do recover.
But recovery stories are not the only way of sharing our experiences. In this workshop we'll explore telling our own recovery stories, as well as other creative ways we might share our experiences. Although there will be invitations to share at different points, there will be no expectation to share anything during the workshop if you don't want to.
This workshop is open to anyone with lived experience of mental health challenges.
On completing the workshop you'll have the opportunity to share your story at a future Peer Support Network event.
