The aim of this year's Summer Walking Challenge is to walk or wheel the distance of the Old Course at St Andrews each day to celebrate Fife hosting this years AIG Women’s Golf Open, 21-25 August. This challenge is open to everyone. Whether you live, work, or study in Fife – they want as many Fifers as possible to take part.

Everyday walking and physical activity bring a range of physical, mental, and social health benefits.  Active people live longer, happier, and healthier lives.

Walking is a great way to keep active because almost everyone can do it – no matter your age, income, gender or ability. It is free, and no special equipment is needed so it is an easy and accessible way to build in physical activity as part of your everyday life.

    The challenge

Celebrate Fife hosting the AIG Women's Golf Open by walking or wheeling the distance of the Old Course at St  Andrews each day.

Don’t worry if you’re not local to St Andrews! You can take part wherever you live or work in Fife, just complete the challenge by walking or wheeling in your local community.

Starting at the Club House you will make your way around the course avoiding the bunkers and passing the Swilcan bridge whilst enjoying the beautiful sea view. Finishing at the 18th hole you will have walked approximately 4.15 miles.

The challenge is to walk or wheel the equivalent distance of the course each day during the month of August.

You can take part as an individual or you can get together with friends, family or work colleague and split the distance between you as a team.  The aim is to get out every day!

By taking part in the challenge, you also have the chance of winning some golf-related prizes. They have four pairs of tickets to the AIG Women's Open available to win if you choose to enter the prize draw when you sign up to the challenge. You must register by Wednesday 07 August 2024 to be in for a chance of winning these tickets.

There will be a chance to win more golf related prizes for everyone who completes the challenge and submits their final walking totals.

    Individual Challenge

If you already get out walking and wheeling regularly, why not challenge yourself to complete the Old Course at St Andrews each day on your own. This works out as around 4.15 miles per day or 128.65 miles over the month of August.

You might want to set your own daily goal or aim to walk or wheel 1 mile every day. It’s up to you, walk or wheel as little or as much as you like, just keep track of your daily total and see how far you get over the month.

    Team Challenge

Make it social and join in the challenge as a family, with friends or colleagues at work. Aim to cover the distance of the Old Course in St Andrews in August.
