Peer2Peer Essentials is designed to introduce you to the values, principals, and history of peer support, explore how peer relates to your own experiences and context, and look at how peer works in practice. Peer2Peer Essentials is suitable for those looking to move into peer work, those already in peer roles and those interested in learning more about peer (for example, people who work alongside peer workers or are interested in developing peer support roles within their organisation).

Peer2Peer was originally developed through an EU-funded partnership to provide training for people with lived experience of mental health challenges to support others in recovery. Scottish Recovery Network was a partner in the project and has played a major role in developing and promoting Peer2Peer.

The full Peer2Peer training is approximately 48 hours. Peer2Peer Essentials is a shorter course covering some of the foundational parts of Peer2Peer, and inviting you to think about your next steps. Peer2Peer Essentials was co-developed by members of the Peer Support Network.

    Peer2Peer Essentials Learning Outcomes:

    • Explore the development of the recovery approach in mental health
    • Explain peer support and its role in recovery
    • Recognise the value of self-care and boundaries
    • Understand the importance of being trauma informed
    • Know how to recognise and respond to stigma and power imbalances
