FVAWP - Impact of Domestic Abuse in the Early Years
Created: 19/03/2024Children's experience of domestic abuse can cause both short and long term cognitive, behavioural and emotional effects, and impact on attachment. Each child will respond differently to the trauma of witnessing domestic abuse depending on a range of factors including, but not limited to, sex, race, culture, age, and stage of development.
Domestic abuse is also often seen as an attack on the mother-child relationship and therefore affects attachment and impacts on positive parenting strategies.
