Children's Health Scotland - Disability & Complex Needs for Foster Carers in Scotland
Created: 15/12/2023Children with disabilities and complex needs have a range of unique and challenging conditions that overlap, which can affect their everyday lives. This includes learning disabilities, sensory impairments, physical disabilities, medical issues and/or mental health disorders. This workshop is focused on gaining knowledge and understanding regarding the healthcare needs and rights of children and young people with disabilities and complex needs.
They require additional or specialist support so that they can lead healthy, fulfilling lives. Complex needs can be evident at birth, or they can develop later in life after illness, injury or significant trauma. However, due to the complex profiles of these individuals, finding the right treatment and care can be a challenge. This is because having multiple conditions that overlap affects everything from cognitive ability and social skills to emotional development and behaviour.
This is a free four hour workshop for foster carers living in Scotland.
