LEAP Sports Scotland present the first session of their Accelerating LGBTIQ+ Sport Inclusion bitesize webinar series.

The series aims to showcase areas of best practice that leisure and grassroots sport and physical activity providers can take inspiration from to advance inclusion of LGBTIQ+ people within their clubs, facilities, organisations or programmes.

During this session we will explore the benefits of targeted work towards LGBTIQ+ people and you will hear from academics, clubs, and sport development professionals about successful practice and key learning.

    Speakers include:

    • Dr. David Hunter, Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing, Community and Health at UWS, and Kevin Boyle, Community Clinical Nurse Specialist and founding member of the Glasgow Frontrunners, will present their research “A healthier way to meet people: the experiences of LGBT people exercising with a peer group.”
    • Gemma Simpson and Logan McConachie, Sports Development Officers with Live Active Leisure in Perth & Kinross, will showcase how they have worked to improve participation of LGBTIQ+ people locally including through active collaboration with The Perth Parrots Floorball Club.
    • Mhairi Patience, Glasgow Netball Development Officer for Netball Scotland, will present her work in developing and running an LGBTIQ+ access programme, and will share the results of the programme.

There will also be a Q&A session with the speakers and the LEAP Sports team following the main inputs.
