The Fife Visiting Support Services, Short Term Housing Support work with people in their own homes, sheltered housing, and temporary accommodation in the community throughout Fife to help them live independently, therefore access to a car and a full driving licence are essential.
Short Term Housing Support are responsible for delivering a housing support service for up to six months to enable people to sustain their tenancy and live as independently as possible in their own homes. It is the Support Worker's responsibility to develop effective relationships with people affected by a range of challenges, support them to cope in difficult times, and enable them to live a good life. In doing so, to provide emotional, practical and social support to help people to live as independently as possible and make informed choices in all aspects of their lives.
As a Support Worker in this service, you will support and assist service users to achieve outcomes in the following areas - income maximisation/managing, sustaining a tenancy, improved independent living skills, accessing specialist support, reducing isolation, improved mental health and wellbeing, and long term care at home.
Support Workers in the Fife Support Service, Long Term Care at Home are responsible for delivering a visiting care at home service to enable people to live as independently as possible in their own homes (which may include prompting of personal care and medication, where required, and help to enable people to develop practical household skills). The post holder will provide emotional support, to assist people to take part in activities that matter to them and help them engage with their community to reduce social isolation.
As a Support Worker in this service, you will support and assist service users to maximise their income and benefits. This might involve liaising with other agencies that may be involved with the service user, advocating on their behalf, and accessing professional help if required and appropriate. In addition, you will support service users to cope with the responsibilities of a tenancy and help them take responsibility for the safety of themselves and their home.

The course provides an introduction to the area of social care and can be a stepping-stone to employment or further training.
