New resources to make child safety simple
Created: 14/08/2023The information packs include free printed and downloadable educational resources, which have been designed to improve confidence, knowledge and skills around the risks to children’s safety.
In Scotland, one child dies a month from accidents, while one in seven emergency admissions are due to unintentional harm, and the charity says it’s vital that families have information about the simple changes that can help avoid everyday dangers.
Katrina Phillips OBE, CAPT’s chief executive, said: “Preventable accidents are a leading cause of serious injury, acquired disability and death, with the under-fives and children from deprived communities at particular risk.
“In Scotland in 2021-22, there were almost 6,000 emergency admissions to hospital following an accident – 14 children tragically lost their lives.
Thanks to the generosity of the Scottish Government, we can offer free educational resources to everyone working with children and families. Please use them to spread the word and help keep Scotland’s children safe.”
Accidents often happen when there’s a lot going on, according to CAPT, so each of the new resources support the theme of “safety made simple” and feature advice on preventing serious burns, improving safety around dogs, stopping falls, and keeping cleaning products out of reach, amongst other common issues.
As well as handy fact sheets, the new resources include activities for children and parents/carers to complete together.
