We are delighted to announce that we have this week passed the accreditation to become a Volunteer Friendly organisation.

Volunteer Friendly is a quality standard regulated in Scotland by Volunteer Scotland and the TSI Scotland Network. It's used to support, recognise and reward groups that are good at involving volunteers and is open to any organisation with an income of less than £200,000. FVA takes in a bit more than that but is also eligible as a delivery partner. We think it's important that we are held to the same standards that we ask other organisations to hold themselves to, and we are extremely pleased that not only did we do so, we smashed it!

The award had a revamp in 2021, and now includes in the process an interview with volunteers, together with more user-friendly steps to achieve accreditation. We've seen a tail-off in the number of accredited organisations in the last few years. We're confident that's not because of the quality of volunteer involvement but rather because of the impact of the pandemic. We strongly encourage eligible organisations to put themselves forward to achieve the standard. Our Volunteering Development team - Ashleigh Burt, in particular- can offer guidance and support; the full cost of accreditation is no more than £99.00, and the certification is current for three years from the data of award.

And if you're not eligible for Volunteer Friendly but demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteer involvement, why not consider seeking Investing in Volunteers accreditation instead?

Here are some of the comments that the assessors made about Fife Voluntary's Action submission:

"The submission for the Volunteer Friendly Award from Fife Voluntary Action is excellent and reflects tremendous dedication to volunteers at Fife Voluntary Action. The submission highlights exceptional work and volunteering both within Fife Voluntary Action direct volunteering services/projects and with the wider role Fife Voluntary Action has in promoting and developing volunteering across Fife as the local third sector interface".

"A very impressive submission for the Volunteer Friendly Award that shows the brilliant support for volunteering at Fife Voluntary Action and the wider role Fife Voluntary Action undertake in driving forward best practice in volunteering across Fife"

"I fully agree with the assessment/feedback from Volunteer Scotland to award Fife Voluntary Action the Volunteer Friendly Award and commend the exemplary volunteering at Fife Voluntary Action."

"Thank you to the team for submitting an excellent portfolio! It shows that FVA are ensuring that they are giving their volunteers an excellent experience. It was also reassuring to read that FVA always consider the Volunteer Charter when developing their volunteer roles and that they have pledged to promote and uphold the principles of the Charter by becoming Charter Champions."
