Plans are coming together in Fife to celebrate The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort, and if you’re planning on organising an event, Fife Council has set up a handy website to help you make yours safe and successful.

Steve Grimmond, Fife Council's Chief Executive explained: “Like most of the country, Fife Council will mark the King's Coronation with a day's holiday on Monday 08 May. This means that most staff will get an extra day off and most council buildings and services will be closed. However, we still intend to run some key services and will issue more detail after we've discussed plans with trade unions."

“Schools will also be closed on 08 May. We appreciate that schools have been affected recently by national strike action. However, a national holiday has been declared and as a council we believe it's important that families across the Kingdom can spend the day together."

“Here in Fife, we’re planning to hold a Coronation Afternoon Tea hosted by the Lord-Lieutenant of Fife, Mr Robert Balfour, and the Provost of Fife, Jim Leishman, for nominated guests at the Glen Pavilion in Dunfermline on 08 May."

“Fife has many dedicated volunteers who work hard throughout the year, supporting a community or a cause and the Lord-Lieutenant and Provost wanted to use this Volunteers Day during the Coronation celebrations to say thank you for all that you do."

“We’re asking you to nominate a deserving volunteer from your community or organisation. The guests will be selected randomly, and successful nominees will receive two invitations (one for them and a plus one) by post in the coming weeks."

“To be considered please either fill in the online form which you’ll find at www.fife.gov.uk/kingscoronation alternatively, you can email [email protected], call 03451 55 55 55 ext. 440336 or write to:

“The deadline for nominations/applications is midnight on Monday 10 April and we’ll draw the lucky names on Tuesday 11 April. Invites will then be sent out week commencing 17 April.

“We’d love to see Fifers get involved in the celebrations too, so we’ve pulled together a webpage with a list of Frequently Asked Questions as well as information about what you need to do to hold a safe and successful event.”
