Huge congratulations to the team at Kirkcaldy radio station K107FM which has picked up a record breaking seven nominations at this year's Community Radio Awards.

K107FM headed to the event with nominations across 6 of the 19 categories, and has returned back to Fife with one Gold, one Silver and 2 Bronze awards; more than any other Scottish station. This awards haul also demonstrates continued growth from the Kirkcaldy based broadcaster after single Bronze Community Radio Award wins in both 2020 and 2021.

It’s also the 2nd successive win for the Saturday Sports Show. The K107FM winners were:

    • Sage Person of the Year – GOLD
    • Craig Mitchell Specialist Music Show of the Year – SILVER
    • The Letty Rock Show (Collette Burns) Sports Show of The Year – BRONZE -Saturday Sports Show (Graeme Kilgour)
    • Covid and Community Rebuild – BRONZE  #MercatMarriage (Alex Airnes)

The awards ceremony was held in Bedford, alongside the UK Community Radio Network conference. The awards recognise all the great work that Community Radio does in local communities, entertaining, informing, and engaging listeners. All this hard work is being done by minimal staff and quite often lots of volunteers.

Interim Chair, and now Gold Award recipient, Craig Mitchell said: “As presenter of my own show, ‘Morning with Mitch’ every Tuesday from 10-12noon, to receive the station’s first ever Gold Award has been very exciting both personally and for the station and justifies all the work that goes on behind the scenes each week, for all our presenters. As Interim Chair I am incredibly proud of the Trustees and Members of K107fm for all their efforts over the last year, during which, the station has continued to evolve. The pinnacle of this year, must be achieving a gold, silver and two bronzes at the Community Radio Awards Ceremony this month, making us the most successful Scottish Community Radio Station of 2022! Our programmes are both entertaining and innovative, but always with a local feel. Clearly, we are a station, run by a team of committed volunteers, which continues to improve, to deliver and to connect with our community. “

Martin Steers, Awards Chair, said: “It’s been another great year for Community Radio across the UK, and as ever it’s been a big challenge for our judges from across the industry as the quality of entries are better than ever, a real testament to all that Community Radio stations do in their areas.”
