Fife Gingerbread - lone parents, poverty and work update
Created: 28/09/2022, Updated: 30/09/2022Lone Parents, Poverty and Work, an initiative aimed at addressing child poverty in Scotland, was launched by Fife Gingerbread in April 2022.
Led by Lyndsey Thomson, Project Coordinator, the initiative has been gathering momentum over the last few months through engagement with a number of local employers and raising awareness of the barriers to employment faced by lone parents.
Fife Gingerbread are excited to be collaborating with Fife Council as part of a progressive recruitment strategy identifying different ways of working to recruit lone parents into bespoke flexible opportunities, co-designing a progression pathway to support lone parents into and to sustain employment. Embedding a whole family approach to employability, this collaboration not only meets the needs of lone parents seeking flexible employment opportunities, minimizing the need for unaffordable and inaccessible childcare but also the business needs of Fife Council in filling a number of their vacancies.
By bridging the gap with employers and advocating on behalf of lone parents, Fife Gingerbread also aim to encourage a ‘lone parent positive culture’ within Fife’s workplaces through the provision of drop-in sessions and a guide for employers.
