How volunteering helped me to start a new life
Created: 30/05/2022After moving from Pakistan to Scotland, this client felt vulnerable as she had no one to talk to or ask for support. She felt lost and alone – struggling to see how she could make a life here without help. This impacted greatly on her physical and mental health.
By taking part in the No One Left Behind programme, this client was linked up with an FVA Volunteering Development Officer who supported her with settling here - including finding a volunteering opportunity and applying for a course at Fife College.
This client now volunteers with confidence at Footcare Fife – our toenail cutting service – and at a local charity shop.
She now feels at ease here and is looking to start College soon. She hopes to enter into paid employment at some point in the future.
The client said, “I was falling, I just felt like I would keep falling, I was in a big river and was drowning. “
“I am getting stronger every day. Volunteering has totally changed my world. I am always going to be grateful.”
Looking to start volunteering? We recommend taking part in our upcoming Step into Volunteering training to get you started. To find out more about the volunteering opportunities available in Fife, please visit our website. Contact us if you would like more information on volunteering.
