Young client gains confidence and purpose through volunteering
Created: 30/05/2022This young client sought to volunteer to gain new skills and experience, but also to build confidence in himself.
After exploring various volunteering opportunities with a FVA Volunteering Development Officer (VDO), he found an opportunity that matched his wants and needs. Our VDO supported him with the application process and ensured he had the support that he needed to build his confidence.
He now volunteers at a social café and attends weekly sessions to help out with refreshments and activities.
As a result of volunteering, this client has reached beyond his boundaries, bettered his mental health, and become much more confident in himself.
Our VDO said: “As well as the difference volunteering has made my client, he has made a massive difference to the members of the social group, giving them someone to talk to and reducing their loneliness. He is now thinking about work and his future, and he feels ready to push himself to find his dream job and to keep control over his own life.”
The client said: “I have gained experience, confidence, and a feeling of contribution through my volunteering. “
“I have enjoyed chatting to the clients and I am better at making a good cup of tea!".
