Scottish Social Security - Independent Advocacy Service opens
Created: 25/02/2022Disabled people are now able to access a new advocacy service to get help applying for Social Security Scotland benefits.
The support is available to disabled people applying for any of our current and future benefits including Child Disability Payment and Adult Disability Payment.
The service is available free of charge to:
a) anyone with a disability who may need extra support to understand and communicate when accessing and applying for Social Security Scotland benefits;
b) parents or carers with a disability who need support to access benefits for a child; and
c) parents or carers who are accessing benefits for a child with a disability, if the child wants to be involved in the process and needs support.
An advocacy worker will not provide advice, but can help clients to:
This service will be delivered by the charity VoiceAbility and is entirely independent of the Scottish Government and Social Security Scotland. You can refer clients directly to the service by completing the appropriate referral form on the VoiceAbility website. Alternatively, clients can access this support themselves through the VoiceAbility website, or by contacting VoiceAbility directly for free on 0300 303 1660.
