Introduction to Creative Writing for new learners living in SIMD areas
Created: 04/02/2022The WEA Scotland is running two new courses to provide an introduction to Creative Writing to new learners from SIMD (Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation) areas. The courses will take place online (via Zoom and also using Canvas VLE).
One course is open to all learners and one is open to women living in Fife only. Access these flyers for more information: Find your voice - Creative writing or Women in Fife - Connected by word.
The WEA is keen to engage with learners from SIMD areas and especially from potential learners/group members that haven’t been involved in this type of learning/course before. The groups will be as much about wellbeing as creative writing – the health and wellbeing benefits are huge from this type of weekly session.
New learners will be encouraged and supported by a tutor during the course session. The WEA team hopes that the new courses will provide new learners with a boost of confidence and that they from making new contacts in a friendly, welcoming group.
The online aspect should not be a barrier to learners/ group members enjoying and benefiting from the sessions - they will though need to have use of a suitable digital device and WI-FI access. The WEA has successfully delivered a lot of Creative Writing online over the last two years and it is a subject that seems to work well online. If learners are unsure they are welcome to join for a week or two to see whether it is for them.
To sign up for either of these courses, please contact Archie Campbell (Area Education Manager, The WEA) by e-mailing [email protected] or calling 07748 623 438.
