Fife College has courses available locally for adult returners to education:

Step In is a course that runs for nine hours a week and is about building social skills and confidence. Attendees can earn a basic qualification and take part in personal development  (this could include First Aid, Cooking, Arts and crafts etc). It usually runs on a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning.  There is also some ICT and Numeracy included.  Fife College also often gets guest speakers in to speak about support in the local community.  The course usually starts in August/September and ends in January/February (running for 17 weeks).  The next Step In course starts in February and again in August/September 2022.  Applications can be submitted now for the February start.  There is no Step In running at Leven until August/September 2022.

Step Up is a course that runs for 15 hours a week.  This course gets the student 7 qualifications - Numeracy, Communication, ICT, Tourism in the Local area, Customer Care Skills, Employability and Enterprise.  These are at Level 4, although Core skills can be done at Level 3 or 5.  The course runs from 09:00 - 12:00 and 13:00 - 15:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It usually starts in August/September and end in January/February (running for 17 weeks).  Fife College is recruiting now for February start.

Both of these courses are fairly flexible as students can start at 09.30 once they have dropped their children off at school. There is also the flexibility to leave early to collect children from school.  The Students Association offers a free breakfast for all students between 08.30 and 09.30 am.  Application can be made for travel and childcare costs.  Classes are small and usually no larger than 12 students.  Ages can range from 16 (this is discussed with the student re their commitment to a course) to 60.

Fife College is now recruiting for these courses in Glenrothes and Leven. Please contact Lorraine Wilkinson - e-mail [email protected] or call 07817 013 157 if you are interested in taking part in any of the above courses.
