    Making Work Work is funded by the SDS Women Returners Programme. It’s an employability programme for women, aged 25 and over, who have been out of paid employment for six months or more and want to restart their career journey. 


    The Making Work Work programme empowers women to make work work with all the other commitments and enjoyment of life.   Making Work Work is aimed at women with management experience or aspirations who are motivated to return to work with purpose. The programme is Scotland wide and relevant to women from all fields and is unique in that it combines content aimed at developing and refreshing transferable skills alongside employability and personal development support to unlock the two critical factors most often cited by women in their job search: confidence and networks.


    Women leave the programme more confident, better prepared for re-entering employment, able to define their own work-life blend and with knowledge and understanding of the benefits to worker and employer of flexible working. Over 80% of the women on the 2021 pilot have gone to paid employment that’s right for them.


    This online programme will run in groups of around 25 women, each training 2 half days per week for five - six weeks, with optional masterclasses, workshops and networking opportunities open to all participants across the groups. The focus is on peer-led learning, so women share their experience and challenges to learn from and support each other. Participants are also allocated a personal mentor during the programme. 


    Many women use a career break as an opportunity to re-train or change direction and our programme supports them on their own, unique path to find employment, self-employment, volunteering or further training opportunities that fits with their skills, aspirations, and lifestyles. On the Making Work Work programme women will meet other passionate, creative and supportive individuals looking to return to  work in the right field, at the right level and in a way that supports their commitments and stage of life.


    The programme is delivered by a unique partnership between the Challenges Group, Volunteering Matters and Get the Gen.
