Support your community to receive their flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine this autumn/winter
Created: 18/11/2021Please find below a letter from the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Gregor Smith, on how the third sector can support the community to receive their flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine this autumn/winter:
Dear colleague
We would like to thank the third sector, community organisations and volunteers across Scotland for your continued efforts to keep Scotland safe, and in supporting those who have been impacted most by the pandemic.
As you may be aware, we are currently rolling out our autumn/winter vaccination programme. We are offering flu and COVID-19 booster vaccinations to everyone who is eligible, as quickly and safely as possible.
This year our immunity to flu may be lower than usual. And it’s likely that flu and COVID-19 viruses will be circulating at the same time.
We want to protect those who are most at risk from becoming ill and prevent hospitalisations and deaths. NHS Scotland strongly recommends people get vaccinated.
That is why we are asking you to continue to highlight the importance of getting vaccinated when invited. Information on eligibility for the flu and COVID-19 vaccines is available here.

We also would like to take this opportunity to ask that you continue to promote the importance of following the COVID-19 guidance. Advice and resources can be found here.
Thank you again for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Gregor Smith
Chief Medical Officer
