COP26 is the upcoming 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, taking place in Glasgow, from 31 October - 12 November.

The summit will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. It is the most significant climate event since the 2015 Paris Agreement.

    The goals of COP26 include:

    • Secure global net-zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach.
    • Adapt to protect communities and natural habitats.
    • Mobilise finance.
    • Work together to deliver

Scientists are clear that NOW is the time to act and we all have a responsibility to do what we can - as individuals and organisations - to help achieve these goals and limit the catastrophic effects of climate change on our planet.

We anticipate that our sector will have to consider and implement changes to how we run and operates services in order to decrease our own carbon footprint and improve our sustainability. The direction of this will depend on the outcome of COP26.

As always, we'll do what we can to support organisations and we'll share information and guidance on what this means for our sector as it is developed by the Scottish and UK Governments.

During COP26, we'll highlight some local/national resources and events that are available to help you understand the climate crisis better and establish what you can do within your organisation, or as an individual, to be more sustainable.

    Coming up....

Join us at our Lunchtime Learning session to hear from Hayley Williamson (Climate Action Fife) who will discuss what the climate emergency means for Fife and how we, as organisations, can respond and contribute to helping meet the goals of COP26. This will take place from 12:00 - 13:00 on 09 December 2021.

In the lead-up to COP26, Climate Action Fife has come up with a list of five actions for us to do in our own lives to help tackle the climate emergency. The actions chosen are high impact but are achievable to most people.

Have a look at the list below and see which ones are achievable for you:

    1. I will reduce my energy usage.
    2. I will cook plant-based for 2 meals a week.
    3. I will cycle for one regular local journey each week.
    4. I pledge to avoid buying new clothes for 3 months.
    5. I will join a local group taking climate action.
