Volunteers needed from 15 - 17 July to support the distribution of food to children and families
Created: 23/06/2021From Thursday 15 July until Saturday 17 July, volunteers for FareShare and the Trussell Trust will collect long-life food in large Tesco stores across the UK and Northern Ireland as part of a special Tesco Food Collection to support children and families throughout the summer holidays.
Volunteers are needed to help for one 3 hour shift on one of those three days - although you can always do more if you have the time.
Volunteers will be kept safe by not directly approaching customers, bringing their own face covering to wear whilst in store, and being able to sanitise their hands as often as they want with the sanitiser provided. The pandemic has hit us all very hard. Lockdown restrictions in 2020 caused a huge drop in the food given from the Tesco Food Collection - 129 tonnes of food, more than 50% less than in 2019, when 265 tonnes was received.
A major part of this huge drop was that last year FareShare and the Trussell Trust couldn't have volunteers, and these numbers show just how vital they are to helping us get food to the rapidly growing numbers of vulnerable people.
