Samaritans of Dunfermline is delighted to announce that it is now officially a Volunteer Friendly organisation after achieving the Volunteer Friendly Award.

Samaritans of Dunfermline achieved this award back in 2016 and have worked hard this past year to renew the Award and prove that they are still a Volunteer Friendly organisation. They have achieved this accolade for the way they involve, manage and support volunteers, following the five strands of the Volunteer Friendly Award standards.

The Volunteer Friendly Award is given for excellent volunteer management practice and Samaritans of Dunfermline have had to provide evidence that they manage volunteers effectively, treat them fairly, train and support them in their roles, offer them the opportunity for personal development and celebrate the contribution they make to the organisation.

Overall, this shows their commitment as an organisation to involving volunteers in satisfying and rewarding roles.

Linda Miller, Director says: “There are lots of benefits to having the Volunteer Friendly Award, to both the organisation and its volunteers. Volunteers will have confidence that they are being looked after well and treated as an equal member of the organisation and will be recognised for the contribution they make.”

With a nationally recognised quality standard in volunteer management, the organisation can show funding bodies that good volunteer management practices are in place. About Samaritans:

Samaritans is a volunteer-led organisation without whom Dunfermline Branch would not exist. In addition to our core role of supporting callers who contact our listening service, we also rely on volunteers to give generously of their time to undertake a variety of other roles including management and leadership of the branch, fundraising, recruitment, selection, training and mentoring of new volunteers, outreach work in schools, colleges, prison and other vulnerable groups. This enables volunteers to bring existing skills to the running of the branch and also provides opportunities for volunteers to learn new skills. Our support volunteers are also very much a part of the branch, sharing their expertise in Finance, IT, compliance and office organisation.

The organisation currently has 78 volunteers in the branch but is always looking for new volunteers. If you are interested in joining the team, click here.

    About the Volunteer Friendly Award:

The Volunteer Friendly Award is a simple, user-friendly quality standard to support, recognise and reward groups who are good at involving volunteers. It has never been more important for groups to be able to show how good they are at involving and managing their volunteers.

Volunteer Friendly helps you to take a systematic look at what you do and how you do it. It offers a flexible approach with full support from your local Third Sector Interface.
