  • The impact of COVID-19 on people with learning disabilities and their parents, carers and supporters

    Created: 22/06/2020

    The Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities (SCLD) has published the findings of its survey which investigated the impact of COVID-19 on people with learning disabilities and their parents, carers and supporters. The SCLD created two online surveys - one for those with intellectual/learning disabilities and one for their parents, carers and supporters - and received 350 responses. The results highlight several concerns on the negative impact the crisis is having on people with intellectual/learning disabilities:

    • a reduction or removal of essential support;
    •  increased levels of social isolation;
    •  compounded by digital exclusion; and
    •  increased levels of mental health issues.

    The full survey results can be accessed here and an easy read version can be found here
