Volunteer Friendly Award for Active Schools Fife
Created: 12/12/2019We are delighted to announce that Active Schools Fife is officially a Volunteer Friendly organisation after achieving the Volunteer Friendly Award. Active Schools have achieved this accolade for the way they involve, manage and support volunteers, following the five strands of the Volunteer Friendly Award standards.
The Volunteer Friendly Award is given for excellent volunteer management practice and Active Schools have had to provide evidence that they manage volunteers effectively, treat them fairly, train and support them in their roles, offer them the opportunity for personal development and celebrate the contribution they make to the organisation.
Overall this shows their commitment as an organisation to involving volunteers in satisfying and rewarding roles.
How and why you involve volunteers:
Active Schools Fife aim to provide high quality opportunities for pupils to take part in sport and physical activity before school, during lunchtime and after school and to develop effective pathways between schools and sports clubs in their local community.
However, we cannot do this without the support of a network of volunteers; teachers and school staff, senior pupils, students, parents and family members, club coaches etc who provide a range of opportunities that enable pupils to be active, more often.
We recognise and value the contribution of these volunteers who not only make a difference to the lives of children and young people in our schools and communities but also contribute to better health outcomes across Fife.

What the Award is for:
The Volunteer Friendly Award is a simple, user-friendly quality standard to support, recognise and reward groups who are good at involving volunteers.
It has never been more important for groups to be able to show how good they are at involving and managing their volunteers.
Volunteer Friendly helps you to take a systematic look at what you do and how you do it. It offers a flexible approach which allows your group to work at its own pace, with full support from your local Third Sector Interface.
“We are delighted to have achieved the Volunteer Friendly Award as it is a nationally recognised quality standard in volunteer management. The award recognises the investment we put into working with volunteers, supporting them with their personal development to achieve their goals and supporting us to achieve our objectives.
We are committed to supporting our volunteers, recognising and rewarding their contribution and ensuring they feel valued. The Volunteer Friendly Award process has enabled us to identify areas where we can do this better and we have incorporated a number of actions into our workforce development plan to address these.
We would like to thank Fife Voluntary Action for their support and guidance which has enabled us to achieve the Volunteer Friendly Award. We hope this provides volunteers with confidence that volunteering with Active Schools Fife would be a rewarding experience where they would be making a difference and would feel a valued member of our team.”- Andrew Baird, Senior Active Schools Coordinator
