About this opportunity:‘Give a Dog a Bone… and an animal a home’ is a registered charity, founded in 2013. They seek to expand their Board members, to support future growth. They are a unique and award-winning charity, tackling loneliness for older adults via animal companionship and friendship.

To meet their aims, they offer two projects:

Financial support to the over 60s to adopt a rescue pet companion. It’s a WIN/WIN – the person gets a friend, and the animal gets a home.

‘Companionship in the Community’ operating four community spaces in Scotland: Shawlands, Troon, Alloa and Dunfermline, which provide older adults a safe space to make new friends, learn new skills and mix with our special team of Companionship Dogs.

They are looking for our Trustees to make active and insightful contributions to the Board, using their wide-ranging skills, knowledge and experience, to ensure good governance and the development of future strategy.

Director, Trustee, Board/Committee member or Governor?!

Organisations have different names for the volunteers who are responsible for the running of the organisation - some are called Board members, some are Committee members, some may use the word Director for example. Broadly speaking, they mean the same thing - the people at the top who are ultimately responsible! These are important roles (for which training and support is available) and without volunteers at board level voluntary sector organisations could not exist.
