Afghan Refugee Crisis

Last udpated: 08 October 2021, 15:24
  • Fife Voluntary Action is working with our public sector partners, other third sector organisations and the people of Fife to welcome and support Afghan refugees looking to settle here in Fife.

We are currently supporting the Afghan refugees who have arrived here in Fife, and thanks to the generosity of Fifers, we've been able to provide lots of clothes, toys, toiletries and more from the donations we've received.

We have received thousands of bags of donations, we have been able to meet the needs of the families from the donations and so we stopped accepting donated items on Wednesday 06 October. We're now asking the generous people of Fife who wish to help address this humanitarian crisis consider donating money rather than clothes and goods.

    How to Donate Money

Please donate whatever amount of money you can manage via the Crowdfunder website, which is easy to use. The closing date for the fundraising campaign is 22 October. We've raised an incredible £15,000 (plus some Gift Aid contributions) and we're hoping to reach £20,000 by the closing date.

If you're having trouble with the Crowdfunder website, simply call us on 0800 389 6046 with your card details and we will process your donation over the phone.

We are no longer able to accept donated goods

We have been inundated with many thousands of bags of clothes, toys, toiletries and more. Thank you! We have been able to provide the Afghan families with all of the things that they have need thanks to your generosity.

How to Donate Your Time (Volunteer!)

Right now, we have two particular requirements:
    1. We'd like to hear from people who speak Dari and/or Pashto, and
    2. People who can come to Glenrothes and sort through the many thousands of items that have been donated.

If you'd like to help, please call us on 0800 389 6046. As this changes, and we need volunteers for other roles, we will update this page.

Thank you

Fifers have a long and proud tradition of being welcoming and helping fellow citizens, no matter what crisis they face. Desperate families fleeing Afghanistan without their personal possessions will need a lot of support and we're working together in Fife to do what we can.
Kenny Murphy, CEO, FVA.

Our work continues with local and national partners to make sure Fife can help Afghan refugees as they arrive in the country. We want to thank everyone who's expressed support and offered to help, or donate things, since we confirmed this work was underway.
Fife Council Co-Leaders, Cllr David Alexander and Cllr David Ross.

As ever, Fifers are showing their generosity and welcoming community spirit. Together we will be able to help families that have lost their own homes and communities, to restart their lives.
First, we need to gather the right things to meet these families' initial needs, in a manageable way. Fife Voluntary Action will coordinate donations and signpost people to other ways you can help.

Cllr Judy Hamilton, Convener, Community & Housing, Fife Council.
