  • A creative approach to volunteer recruitment that gets results

Volunteer Scotland has shared a case study for Vintage Vibes, an award-winning Edinburgh project working to tackle loneliness and isolation across the city amongst people over the age of 60.

During COVID, Vintage Vibes saw a surge in demand for their service at the same time as experiencing a decline in volunteer sign ups. That's when they got creative with their approach to volunteer recruitment. Their tactics included:

    • Personalise and localise
    • Understand barriers and highlight benefits
    • Go where the service user doesn't
    • Create a good experience for volunteers so they become your ambassadors
    • Be consistent, but creative

From September 2023 to mid March 2024, Vintage Vibes saw a 165% increase in volunteer sign ups versus the same time frame the previous year. This has resulted in being able to open more postcode areas for new referrals and more lonely people being supported by the service.
