    Created: 28/03/2024
    News/Events Category: Funding and Finance
This item will show under the following categories: Climate/Environment

The Climate Action Fund will support communities in the UK to take local action on climate change.

The programme will fund formal partnership projects that reach more people by either:

    • Linking climate action to the everyday lives and interests of local communities and inspiring them to take action
    • Influencing communities at a regional or national level e.g. linking up groups across locations or a campaign that inspires change across one country or the whole of the UK

They are particularly interested in projects that involve people, places and communities experiencing poverty, discrimination and disadvantage.

    Fund award sizes

    Minimum: £500,000

    Maximum: £1,500,000

    Annually awarded: £20,000,000

They aim to fund up to 25 projects.

The minimum you can ask for is £500,000. They expect to fund most projects for between £1 million and £1.5 million over three to five years. They may fund some exceptional projects up to £3 million, and for up to seven years.

    Who can apply

You do not have to be a climate or environment-focused organisation to apply but they will only fund organisations working in formal partnership. Your partnership should:

    • Involve the communities you're working with
    • Work across different sectors
    • Involve experts that can help with evaluation, learning and communications
    • Include at least one organisation with experience of climate or environment work

    Exclusions

    They will not fund:

    • Individuals
    • Sole traders
    • Organisations based outside the UK
    • Anyone who’s applying for another organisation
    • Organisations focused on making profits and sharing these profits privately

    How to apply

Apply online via the National Lottery Community Fund website. You can contact the Lottery to discuss your idea before applying.

Typically, it takes at least six months from when you send your first stage application to find out if you are getting funding.

The closing date for applications is Tuesday 31 December 2024.
