Roles of the Vietnamese from Different Strata in the Democratization Process:
To all democratic forces:
Democratic forces will hold essential roles in transforming our country into a free and
democratic state in a peaceful manner and in the spirit of unity. The Free Vietnam Alliance
proposes:
- Accepting pluralism is accepting different thoughts, opinions and beliefs. We nonetheless
must recognize some ideals common to the majority of the people. The greatest desire of
the people is to build a pluralistic and democratic society where freedom and human rights
are respected and all are equal. Democratic forces must cooperate to exchange ideas,
promote this common popular wish and forge common efforts beneficial to the
democratization process.
- The future democracy in Vietnam is pluralistic. Democratic forces must recognize the
existence of different viewpoints and the people's right to choose. Extremist or fanatical
attitudes will only hinder the efforts directed toward our democratic goal and solving the
crises of the country.
- The history of Vietnam has witnessed so much hatred and division among the people; only
unity can bring a promising future. The dark days of the past must be forgotten and we
must be willing to forgive, so that differences can be accepted and all social elements can
co-exist in a free and democratic society, where humanity shall be the foundation and
happiness the goal.
