Alert: Vietnamese police threatens to kill Father Phan Van Loi

Various reliable sources from Hue, Vietnam, have issued a strong alert that the Vietnamese police has made new threats against Father Phan Van Loi. On Dec 15, 2003, numerous phone calls with threats to kill the outspoken Catholic priest if he steps outside of his house.

These calls were traced to telephone numbers 049-421-625, 049-423-627 and 049-422-343.

Father Phan Van Loi has been accused by the government for collaborating with "overseas reactionaries to overthrow the regime." He has openly criticized the government for human rights violations and religious oppression. He also repeatedly condemned the government for imprisoning Father Nguyen Van Ly, another Catholic priest.
