Australian MP Supports Democracy Advocates in Vietnam

Sydney (VNN - April 10) - Accepting the invitation from Australian Federal MP Julie Irwin, a delegation headed by Mr. Duc Ngoc Nguyen, Secretary General of Free Vietnam Alliance, Dr. Phong Do Nguyen, a Council Member of the Executive Committee and Mrs. Anh Linh Pham, representing Free Vietnam Alliance in Australia, visited Mrs. Irwin's federal office to discuss the current escalating states of the Vietnamese oppressive policy against its own people. Mrs. Irwin gave a warm reception and welcome Mr. Duc Ngoc Nguyen's visit to Australia. On behalf of Free Vietnam Alliance, Mr Duc Ngoc Nguyen expressed his appreciation to Mrs. Irwin for her enormous supports in raising awareness of the human rights abuses in Vietnam. He referred particularly to the speech that she made at the Australian Parliament during the International Human Rights Day last year, condemning the Vietnamese Communist Party of continue violating human rights in Vietnam.

Mr. Duc Ngoc Nguyen also presented to Mrs. Irwin a document compiled by Free Vietnam Alliance, illustrating " Voices of Conscience in Vietnam " and called for her supports of a campaign which released in April called, " A Month For Democracy Advocates in Vietnam ". During the discussion, both sides have exchanged their views on the current repressive human rights situation. Mrs Irwin also expressed her concerns regarding the high level of child labour and sex trafficking in Vietnam, due to poor educational system and high rate of unemployment. At the end of the meeting, Mrs Irwin gave Mr Duc Ngoc Nguyen an Australian Labour Party Badge for his honourable visit and offered to write to the Vietnamese Government to ask for the immediate release of the dissidents.
