ABC, 29/8/99 - About 100 economic migrants have rioted in a special economic zone in Vietnam's central highlands province of Daklak over alleged corruption by local officials.
A police officer says they attacked offices in Dak R'lap district, burned down a medical centre and took away an unspecified amount of coffee.
The officer says the trouble started on August 13 when a migrant was injured in a fight with a security guard as he tried to harvest his coffee crop on land provided by the zone.
The zone's centre claimed the man first had to pay taxes.
The officer says the incident led to series of clashes over the following days, with the migrants unhappy over alleged corruption and the zone's failure to fulfill long-delayed promises on land and other benefits.
