Free Vietnam Alliance
Welcomes 37th Member-Organization

On February 23, 1997, the Free Vietnam Alliance announced and celebrated the joining of the Committee for Freedom, Democracy, and Human Rights in Vietnam - State of Colorado, USA at a ceremony in Denver, Colorado.

Nguyen Ngoc Duc, Secretary General of the Free Vietnam Alliance, came from France to personally welcome the 37th member to the FVA ranks. Despite the chilling winter weather, more than 150 guests and representatives of the media attended the event. On behalf of the Vietnamese community, Dr. Nguyen Van Dinh commended the contribution of the Committee: "I wholeheartedly support the direction and program of the Colorado Committee for Freedom, Democracy and Human Rights in Vietnam. Your Committee will continue to play an important role in bringing organizations together behind a common political front, and in bringing democratic and human rights news and information into Vietnam."

Bui Van Chinh, the newly elected Committee Chairman, introduced other executive members for the 1997-1999 term. To continue in one of its roles as the connection among overseas Vietnamese organizations, the advisory council to the Committee was filled with representatives of major Vietnamese organizations in Colorado.

Nguyen Ngoc Duc presented the Committee with the FVA flag and a gift to mark the occasion. In his presentation, Mr. Duc discussed the FVA program of activities for 1997 to take full advantage of all political developments in Vietnam for the ultimate goal of returning freedom, democracy, and human rights to Vietnam.

Mr. Duc's presentation was followed with a question and answer session, reception, and musical performance. The ceremony was concluded at 8:45 p.m. in the spirit of friendship and hope.
